At Southern Hydraulic, we keep a running stock of 2 and 3 stage hydraulic cylinders for sale in a multitude of sizes. Telescopic cylinders are constructed like the name suggests, like a telescope. This type of cylinder features a rod built out of multiple stages with nested steel tubes of progressively smaller diameters. The main barrel has the largest diameter, and the plungers decrease in size, typically, by one-inch increments. The moving, smaller-diameter, sections are called stages. The stage designation, such as a 3 stage hydraulic cylinder, indicates the rod has three plungers.
This special design enables a telescopic cylinder to achieve long strokes while retaining relatively small collapsed lengths. As this type of hydraulic cylinder can have a minimal retracted size and is able to extend itself to much longer lengths, this model is ideal for applications where space constraints make the use of conventional single-rod cylinders unsuitable.
