The Telescopic Cylinder Takes Lifting to a Whole New Level

The telescopic cylinder has a distinct advantage over other hydraulic cylinders. It can provide an extremely long stroke from a relatively compact, initial source. Comprised of several cylinders that are built inside one another, these cylinders are extremely popular. When the cylinders collapse or expand, they look much like a telescope. They are typically constructed as two types: single-acting and double-acting. Special designs can be built for specific applications. The system uses hydraulic pressure to extend each cylinder housed in the unit.

Typical Applications

The telescopic cylinder is commonly used in construction equipment. Dump trucks are an excellent example. The cylinder makes it possible to lift equipment at various angles as the length of the telescope extends. Other construction applications include forklifts, cranes, excavators, roll off trucks, and oil drilling rigs. These all represent challenging situations that only this type of hydraulic lifting system can solve.

Featured benefits include:

  • Construction that is re-buildable
  • Vee Packings that are both high-quality and adjustable
  • Cross Tube or Trunnion mounting styles
  • Stages made of hard chrome plated metal

At Southern Hydraulic, we design and build telescopes that are above 2500 psi ratings. However, telescopes can be built that are less than 2500 psi if a customer specifically requests it. When the extension has to originate from a tight or narrow space, there is not a better solution that provides such powerful lifting results. Long strokes are achieved while collapse lengths are relatively small.

Custom Built Telescopic Cylinder

We can build high-quality telescopes by employing state-of-the-art equipment that is operated by highly trained professionals who know their trade. Hydraulic cylinders are used in a wide range of industries that also include oil and gas, turf equipment, waste and recycling, snow and ice control, forestry and logging, material handling, military and government, fire and rescue, earth moving, concrete and asphalt, auto hauling equipment, aerospace and agriculture.

Hydraulics is a force moves things upward. Without continual innovations and businesses dedicated to solving industrial solutions, the world would be quite a different place. This is why companies like SHC, Inc. exist. Think of it as enhancing the function of many things—one hydraulic cylinder at a time.
